Weekend Redux

March 17, 2009

This weekend sort of rocked. Alan walked in to the apartment Friday night with three bottles of booze, and we celebrated Friday the 13th with laundry, stir fry, booze smoothies, and Trivial Pursuit. I won the Trivial Pursuit game by one pie slice. Sports questions are Alan’s Achilles’ Heel. We made plans to visit our friends Brad and Lem for Saturday, and read books in bed till we fell asleep. Nice way to end a week.

Saturday morning we went grocery shopping and picked up picnic foods. We went to Welland and took a walk on the island with Brad and Lem, ate pie, and played Scrabble. Brad won the Scrabble game, but it was a lot of fun.

Sunday, Alan and I did next to nothing. I caught up on two episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and some of last week’s Daily Show and Colbert Report. I did not read any of my PHP book, nor did I write my review of American Gods. I did, however, read lots of Foundation’s Edge, and also I played a lot of The Sims 2. We tried to make fish ball soup for supper, and though it was tasty, we used the wrong type of fish and the balls sort of dissolved, so it was more like fish lump soup. Also, Alan and I picked the reception hall for our wedding: Camlachie Community Centre it is!

It’s going to be a long week, I’ve got a lot of work to do and may not be blogging much. I don’t promise too many amazing, deep, introspective posts this week. Which isn’t that odd, because I have never promised that. I am starting to feel better, but it took about three days to get over a massive headache.

Friday the 13th

March 13, 2009

I think I’ve mentioned before that I love Friday the 13ths. They rock. However, I must acknowledge that so far, today has sucked. I was sick yesterday with a massive headache, and it continued into today. I didn’t really start feeling better until about 4. It was such a waste of a work day.

But my luck is about to change. I have all the veggies cut up for tonight’s stir fry, Alan’s on his way home, and today is our soon-to-be anniversary. So hopefully we have a fun night of laundry and hanging out. Maybe we shall play some Trivial Pursuit and celebrate the end of the week with the addition of alcohol to smoothies.

This weekend, I think we have the following plans:

  • Grocery Shopping
  • Pizza Stir Fry and Laundry night
  • Read a chapter of my Zend book
  • Hang out with Brad and Lem
  • Write a review of American Gods (finished it yesterday
  • PI DAY!

Alan just walked in. He brought me a present. It’s in a brown paper bag. Happy weekend everybody!

Father’s Day Weekend

June 16, 2008

My father’s day weekend started off quite sadly, with the loss of neighbour who was more than a neighbour. Marg and Claire Sutton have lived next door to our family for over fifty years. Marg and my grandmother were best friends, and Claire was the closest thing to a gandfather I’ve ever had, as both of mine were gone before I was born. My dad grew up with Marg and Claire’s kids, and my brother and I grew up with their grandkids. She was a strong and witty woman, who was always there for you, and at times knew more of what was going on at my high school than I did. I have very fond memories of sitting around the round kitchen table where Marg would hold courth.

She will be missed greatly by my family and remembered fondly forever. I always considered Marg my extra grandma, and every time I went home to see my family, I made sure to visit Marg as well.

But in happier news, my cousin Laurie had a baby boy yesterday, and Leanna is about to have a baby as well. I got to visit with my aunt Annetta, my uncle Dougald and my cousins Frankee and Leanna and her husband Everett yesterday at lunch. Since I left my car in Guelph on Friday and carpooled with Dennis, we also got to visit with my cousin Robin and her husband Paul, as well as my aunt Linda and uncle Gordon. It was a busy family weekend and I’m quite tired.

It’s hard to think of Marg not being next door, but I feel extremely blessed to have had her in my life for 28 years, and I’m excited to meet my cousin’s kids.

Weekend Recap

March 4, 2008

To recap the weekend:

  • clean out car – yep, I cleaned my car.
  • go grocery shopping – yeah, I totally did that
  • go swimming – no swimming. I did have a bath, but it’s not exactly the same
  • read – indeed, I am literate. Currently reading Arthur C. Clarke’s The City And The Stars
  • find something fun to do in Hamilton – We totally went to the recycling drop off. It was sorta fun.
  • get rid of at least 2 monitors – as of last night, we got rid of all three
  • clean computer room – well, we got rid of monitors… that sort of counts
  • take over the world – yeah, I wasted a lot of time doing so… must remove this game
  • cook something awesome – we made chicken lasagna which was great, a chili that was good, and some cookies that were pretty good.

8 out of 9 aint bad. Alan also let me win at Scrabble
